Get ready for something new !
January 17, 2010 02:27PM
Since I am always looking for ways to make this forum better and easier for all the members I am proud to announce the latest incarnation of the rainwear forum !

[rainwearcentral.com]

Go check it out and give it a try. Comments and suggestions are most welcome! It has a lot more to offer than this current forum and I am hoping to expand it and improve it as time goes by.

As always it will remain completely free. This forum will not be deleted however it will be disabled soon. I am looking for a nice way to archive it so that all the messages and wonderful memory shared on here will be preserved for everyone that made this forum the wonderful place it is today.

Rainwear Regards,

Unfortunately yes - this forums database has got 98% bogus users from spam bots trying to attack it. To migrate is nearly impossible.

I'm possibly not a good person to ask, because I'm of the rather outdated opinion that if something works I don't especially want to change it,even if that change may be for the better.I am very happy with the present forum in its current format.I was always happy with plastic rainwear but I must confess breathables are better in many ways! The new format looks like something I could quite quickly get used to though,so no hostile opposition from me.

I remember finding a migration tool for Phorum to phpBB3 some time ago, only problem was that it didn't transfer user accounts.
But since you don't want to transfer the old account it may work nicely.

I think the new design could use a little work to give it more atmosphere, but so far it's looking great smiling smiley

I went through the motions of joining the new forum but the confirming email has not yet arrived after two or three days.

pete, check your spam folder, else you can try using the "Resend activation email" which is under the login menu.

Looks good Paul, I've registered and said 'hello'

Is the intention that the new 'Rainwear central' will replace this forum?

Thanks for the feedback. The reason for the new one is firstly to introduce sub forums, so that site updates and other commercial types of posts do not end up in the main/general forum and secondly to move to phpBB3 which is more suitable for the task.

Phorum (which this forum runs on) is a bit outdated in that regard and not every flexible.

But I'll leave this forum open for some weeks still - till I figure out how to archive it :-)

Thanks for the feedback - I looked at that script but it seems to be for phorum to phpBB2 and I used phpBB3 for the new site. I am now looking for a way to archive this forum to html pages.

Seems like some ISPs have DNS issues with the new domain, I hoping it gets replicated soon.
I now daily check the pending users and activate them by hand if there are any.

Perhaps I should just switch off email verification since you already need to type in a code to verify you are real....

Yep - it is just that. I have also allows avatars and private messages on the new domain since it has more space available for use.

I think it's a big improvement. WELL DONE !!
